YMCA to Build New Center in Barkley Village

🔊 Listen · narrated by Aiden

The Talbot family, primary landowners of Barkley Village, announced Tuesday they will donate a 6-acre plot at Sunset Drive, Hannegan Street and Woburn Road to the Whatcom Family YMCA. The site will be developed into a regional hub for recreation, wellness, aquatics, youth programs, and intergenerational activities, according to a July 14 news release.

YMCA CEO Courtney Whitaker called the donation "an extraordinary gift" and noted that construction will require "an enormous amount of work and shared commitment from the entire community." The project is in early stages with no construction timeline determined, and funding details were not specified in the release.
