🔊 Listen · narrated by Aiden

Whatcom County has extended its county-wide stage 2 burn ban until further notice, prohibiting all outdoor burning, according to the August 12 Emergency Management Daily Briefing. The burn ban remains in effect as of Wednesday, August 12, with a red flag warning in place until 11 p.m. tonight.

The County Council approved a $7.05 million contract with AidKit to operate the Whatcom Kids First Child Care Subsidy Program, aiming to reduce child care costs for local families. The program begins immediately after the Council’s approval on August 11.

A Lummi Island ferry service outage is scheduled for August 19, from 10:10 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., to inspect and maintain terminal facilities at Lummi Island and Gooseberry Point. The Whatcom Chief ferry will be out of service during this time.
