WA Right to Repair Law Advances

🔊 Listen · narrated by Aiden

Washington state's Right to Repair law, signed in 2025, now allows independent repair shops like Bellingham's FiXCO to fix electronics without manufacturer restrictions, according to owner Mitch Kramer. The law, which took nearly a decade to pass after Kramer first proposed it in 2017, was supported by state legislators and enforced by the Attorney General's Office under the Consumer Protection Act. Kramer, a longtime advocate, said the law has made it easier to repair devices like smartphones and computers. Advocates including Kramer are now turning their focus to Congress to expand the law nationally, as Washington's law is considered one of the strongest in the country.
