Whatcom County is hosting a community engagement workshop on July 22 to discuss the proposed Behavioral Care Center and New Jail. The event will cover details about the size, facility features, and programming for both projects as the County Council prepares to hand off the plans to a Design-Build team.
The workshop is part of the County's efforts to gather public input before moving forward with the projects. County offices will be closed on June 19 to observe Juneteenth, a federal holiday celebrating the end of slavery in the United States.
The County Council will review the projects before transferring them to the Design-Build team for development. The Behavioral Care Center and New Jail are key components of the Third Justice Project, which aims to improve community safety and mental health services.
