Squalicum football opens with 26-0 win

🔊 Listen · narrated by Aiden

Squalicum High School football defeated Sehome 26-0 in their season opener on September 4 at Civic Stadium in Bellingham.

Head coach Nick Lucey introduced the wishbone offensive formation for the first time in his 12-year tenure, aiming to shorten the game and get the ball into playmakers' hands. Quarterback Asher Asbjornsen said the new system was 'expensive' and took time to learn, but he was proud of the team's performance.

Asbjornsen scored a 68-yard touchdown run and celebrated a 1-yard touchdown, marking Squalicum's first win over Sehome in five years. The team aims to continue this momentum in the upcoming season.
