Mount Vernon bans kratom, 7-OH products

πŸ”Š Listen Β· narrated by Aiden

Mount Vernon City Council unanimously approved an ordinance banning the sale, distribution, and advertising of all kratom products, including 7-OH derivatives, on August 26.

The ordinance establishes a $250 fine for violations and allows for business license revocation. Possession of kratom products is not prohibited. Kratom products, sold in gas stations and smoke shops as energy boosters and pain relievers, are derived from Southeast Asian tree leaves with stimulant and sedative effects.

The ban is the first of its kind in northwest Washington and follows widespread availability of the federally and state-unregulated products.
