Whatcom County has activated a county-wide stage 2 burn ban and issued a heat advisory and air quality alert effective through Wednesday, July 23. The National Weather Service reports temperatures may approach 90 degrees in certain areas, prompting the heat advisory. The air quality alert is due to poor air quality conditions expected today and tonight. The burn ban prohibits all outdoor burning until further notice. Residents are advised to avoid outdoor activities during peak heat hours and to monitor air quality conditions for potential health impacts.
