Burn ban, ferry schedule changes, road closure

πŸ”Š Listen Β· narrated by Aiden

A county-wide stage 2 burn ban is in effect, prohibiting all outdoor burning, according to the Whatcom County Emergency Management Daily Briefing issued Sept. 9. The ban remains active as temperatures reach the high 70s with partly cloudy conditions expected.

Whatcom County Council meeting procedures will change starting Sept. 15, though details about the modifications were not specified in the notice. The ferry division will sell multi-ride punch cards at the Lummi Island Ferry Office on Sept. 9 from 5:40 a.m. to 2:40 p.m., and a railroad crossing at Loomis Trail Road and Portal Way will close from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the same day for BNSF repairs.

The Whatcom Chief ferry will depart for dry dock on Sept. 12 and return to regular service on Oct. 4, according to the Fall 2026 Ferry Dry Dock Logistics notice.
