Whatcom County Sheriff's Office has updated its daily briefings for Sept. 9-10, 2026, confirming a county-wide stage 2 burn ban remains in effect, prohibiting all outdoor burning. The ban was first implemented earlier this week and continues as weather conditions increase fire risk.
Road closures include a temporary railroad crossing closure at Loomis Trail Road and Portal Way from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sept. 9 while BNSF makes repairs. The ferry division also held a punch card sale and exchange at the Lummi Island Ferry Office on Sept. 9 from 5:40 a.m. to 2:40 p.m.
Residents are advised to visit WhatcomReady Facebook for preparedness tips. The county council meeting procedures will change starting Sept. 15, but details were not provided in the alert.
