Over 100 Bellingham residents volunteer with For Goodness Cakes, a national nonprofit that provides custom birthday cakes for under-served youth and children in foster care.
Lori Eller, a Bellingham volunteer, recently created a rainbow cake with rocket and jet decorations for a child she never met. The cake was made for a child in foster care through the organization's program.
For Goodness Cakes has 27 chapters nationwide and recently celebrated baking its 50,000th cake. In Bellingham, the organization coordinates with seven local agencies to match volunteer bakers with children's cake requests, including flavor, filling, and frosting preferences.
Bellingham volunteer Bailey Crook, 26, emphasized that volunteers don't need to be professional bakers, stating 'No matter what, people are grateful that you're going out of your way and making something for them, for free, just for the good of it.'
