A 28-year-old Bellingham man was arrested Tuesday, Aug. 25, after a crash that injured a child, according to Whatcom County Sheriff's Office. Deputies found the vehicle hit a utility pole in the 2900 block of East Bakerview Road around midnight. The child, who was unbuckled in the front passenger seat, had substantial injuries and was taken to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center.
The man, who had a suspended license and showed signs of impairment, was arrested on probable cause for vehicular assault, reckless endangerment, and third-degree driving while license suspended. He is in custody at Whatcom County Jail on $25,000 bail for the vehicular assault charge. Prosecutors did not file formal charges for the other two offenses, per the jail log report.
