Bellingham High Alum Rides 4,000 Miles for Disability Fundraising

πŸ”Š Listen Β· narrated by Aiden

Bellingham High alum Kaleb Payne began a 4,000-mile cross-country bike ride on June 8 from San Francisco as part of the Journey of Hope program to raise awareness and funds for people with disabilities. Payne, a University of Washington student, is expected to reach Washington, D. C. on August 8 after making approximately 35 stops along the route.

The ride, organized through Payne's University of Washington fraternity Pi Kappa Pi, includes stops at organizations serving people with disabilities. Payne and three fraternity brothers recently rode over 90 miles from a Sacramento suburb to South Lake Tahoe, navigating elevations up to 11,000 feet. They paused in Lincoln, Nebraska on July 9 before continuing east.

Payne learned about the Journey of Hope program during his freshman year at the University of Washington. He described the project as an opportunity to meet new people while supporting a cause directly impacting his education and community.
