Whatcom County Emergency Management has placed a county-wide Stage 1 burn ban in effect as of July 9, 2026, according to the latest daily briefing. The ban prohibits all outdoor burning, including campfires, except in designated fire rings at developed campgrounds.
The burn ban was announced in both the July 8 and July 9 emergency management briefings, with the July 9 update noting clearing skies for the afternoon and possible showers on Friday. The briefings also indicate that Sunday will feature Bellingham's Pride Parade, with emergency management staff monitoring the event.
Stage 1 burn bans typically restrict outdoor burning to prevent wildfires during dry, hot conditions. Whatcom County has not yet issued a Stage 2 or Stage 3 ban, which would further restrict burning activities.
