Bellingham Burn Ban, Algae Alerts Continue

πŸ”Š Listen Β· narrated by Aiden

Whatcom County has extended a stage 2 burn ban until further notice, prohibiting all outdoor burning. The ban was announced in Monday's emergency management briefing, effective July 27, 2026.

Harmful algae blooms are also being monitored as summer temperatures rise. County alerts warn that blue-green algae can produce toxins that cause illness in people and pets. Residents with private water systems drawing from Lake Whatcom are specifically advised to be aware of these risks.

The county will continue monitoring water quality, with June 2026 fecal bacteria reports now available online for public review.
