Bellingham-area road closures begin this week

πŸ”Š Listen Β· narrated by Aiden

WSDOT announced multiple road closures starting this week in Bellingham and surrounding areas. On Tuesday evening, Aug. 4, two lanes of I-90 between Eighth Avenue South and the floating bridge will close until 3 a.m. Wednesday. The closure affects drivers traveling between downtown Bellingham and the east side of the lake.

Other changes include a nightly closure on northbound I-405 from 8:45 p.m. to 5 a.m., a 10-day closure on SR 161 for culvert installation, and a two-day lane closure on SR 522 from 8 p.m. Wednesday to 3 a.m. Thursday. US 101 will see reduced traffic flow between mileposts 1. 0 and 2. 5 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily through Wednesday.

WSDOT advises drivers to plan ahead for delays of up to 20 minutes on US 101 and to expect overnight closures on multiple routes. The longest closure is on SR 161, which will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday for fish culvert installation.
