Whatcom County Public Health issued a warning about harmful algae blooms on July 24, 2026, advising residents to stay out of water where blooms are present. The alert noted that warmer temperatures and nutrients can cause dangerous blue-green algae to grow rapidly during summer.
A separate Air Quality Alert and Heat Advisory, issued on July 20, 2026, warns that temperatures may approach 90 degrees in some parts of the county through Wednesday. The National Weather Service issued the advisory, which affects the entire county.
Public Health also stated that cyclosporiasis cases in Washington are not linked to outbreaks in other states, and a new invoicing platform for permits will begin emailing invoices starting in October.
